Joe Torre: I’ll Reserve Comment For Now
Like ten of thousands of other Yankee fans I have the new Torre/Verducci book ”The Yankee Years” on order from one of the online stores. I have been a Joe Torre fan since he first set foot in Yankee Stadium. He made some mistakes along the way… but I always thought he had the team’s best interest in mind. Like many fans I was angered to see him leave and felt at the time that the Yankees brass did not treat him fairly after all that he gave to the organization.
My guess is the book is mainly the brain child of Tom Verducci. But I’ll hold off on this until I read the thing. I got to admit.. It’s a great topic. What Yankee fan doesn’t want to know the inside skinny on the team during the Torre years?
One thing I will say before I read the book… Joe Torre preached the unwritten law of what happens in the clubhouse stays in the clubhouse. Because of this philosophy he was always considered a “players manager”. I guy with the ability to understand what made his players tick. If the reports are true that he has now spoken “out of school” it will be very disappointing. However, for now I will reserve comments on the book and Joe until I read it.
