Phil Hughes Looking Good

Friday, February 27th, 2009

It’s seemed like the sun broke through the clouds for me while watching Phil Hughes pitch two innings of scoreless, hitless baseball yesterday.    I said to my father-in-law “this kid is a still REALLY young.  If he blooms into what we saw during the 7 no hit inning performance , WOW”.

Perhaps last season he just needed time to work through coming back from the injury or his mind wasn’t right or he needed to mature a bit.  Maybe during the off season he found “something” that he wasn’t aware he had.

I know time will tell but I sure liked what I saw yesterday (aside from the two hit batters).   He’s definately got the stuff, he just has to master his control.   If he does that, he could be one of the great ones!  And that’s what we’re all hoping for.

Phil Hughes Back Home After Solid AFL Season

Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008

A post on Phil Hughes’ blog yesterday stated that the Yankee pitcher is home after a successful fall season in Arizona. Hughes finished 2-0 with a 3.0 ERA (8th lowest). He pitched 30 Innings, had 38 Ks (2nd most) and 13 BBs. A pretty good session for 22 year young right hander. Good to see since there’s a good possibility he’ll own the #5 spot in the rotation after spring training.

Yankees Interest In Burnett Cooling?

Saturday, November 22nd, 2008

MLB.com reports that the Yankees may not make Burnett an offer if he insists on a five year deal.  I can’t say I blame them.  While I think he’s the better choice compared to Lowe and Peavy, he doesn’t come without concerns.  The biggest concern with Burnett is health, considering he’s been on the disabled list 10 times in 10 years due to various arm issues.   He’s only had 2 injury free season his during his career.  Yes he was 18-10 last year but the two prior seasons he was 10-8.  I don’t think he’ll get 5 years from any team. The Yankees are wise to wait him out.
