Various Yankee Tid Bits… Pettitte, Teixeira, Nady & Swisher

Mark Teixeira said he will not participate in the upcoming World Baseball Classic. He wants to spend the time getting to know his new Yankee team mates. A good excuse, but you have to give him props. Sabathia and Burnett have said the same. Too bad Jeter and A-Rod won’t be around. It would be a good time for the core of the team to hang out and gel.

Ken Davidoff of Newsday reported yesterday that Andy Pettitte is not happy with how negoitiaitions have gone (IE: he wants $16M) and may consider rejoining the Astros which is closer to home for Andy. We’ve heard that one before. I’ve said this before… $12M for one year with incentives…. that would be fair. Get it done Cash!

The Yankees appear to be shopping around Nady & Swisher… most recently to the Pirates. Word is a deal is not likely. I like Nady in right field. Swisher is redundant now that Tex is on the roster.

Yankees Close The Deal with Mark Teixeira, 8-year, $180M

Jon Heyman of SI is reporting that the Yankees have stolen Mark Teixeira right out from under the Red Sox closing a 8 Year, $180M deal with the golden glove first baseman… WOW! What a team!

Cashman Presses For Sabathia & Maybe Teixeira

Various blogs and papers are reporting that Brian Cashman met with Scott Boras in SoCal yesterday.   He plans to meet with C.C Sabathia over the weekend in either Cali or Las Vegas, prior to the start of winter meetings on Monday.  The New York Times reported today that a meeting took place between Mark Teixeira and Cashman in Washington, D.C., at the request of Boras.

Next week should be interesting… Stay tuned!

Yikes, Angels Talking With Sabathia, Teixeira Still Top On List

 Bill Shaikin and Dylan Hernandez of the L.A. Times report that the Angels have begun contract discussions with C.C. Sabathia.  They feel the Angels could make an offer in the range of Johan Santana’s six-year, $137.5MM deal.  If this happens one would think the Yankees might counter with an increased bid.

They also say that despite the talks for Sabathia, Mark Teixeira remains the Angels’ top priority. They haven’t made an offer yet, but Scott Boras seems to want ten years while the Angels are willing to do seven.

The Angels talking with both top notch free agents could be a blow to the Yankees plan.   I think we have to write off Teixeira now… but Sabathia is a must have.
